A CNA helps assist patients in basic care, which includes bathing, personal care, transfers, eating, walking
and other medical care. You will need to become certified and you also need to renew your certification
periodically in order to be able to work in a medical setting. When you are looking into CNA training CA
schools there are a few requirements that you must meet in order to enroll. Listed below are a few of them.
Training On the Job
In order to pass the Certified Nursing Assistant exam you need to complete 100
hours of supervised clinical practice. This is similar to a CNA training job except you are under the supervision
of a licensed nurse who trains them during clinical. Four of those hours are required to be spent with patients
who have either a mental or developmental disorder. This gives you training and helps you deal with this type
of situation in case you are presented with it during your career. When you have met the requirements, you will
need to pass the test, which is two parts. One part is a written part, and the second part is a clinical part
where you do hands-on practice under supervision.
CNA Training CA Classroom Requirements
State statues in California require training classes to take place either at a hospital or other medical
facility. You need to complete about 60 hours of classroom time and of that, two hours should be focused on the
developmental needs of patients. Other things that your coursework needs to address include patient rights and
safety, nursing skills, certain psychological and social needs of patients and how to recognize elderly
abuse.
Education
CNA training CA programs are overseen by the CDOE (California Department of Education). There are many
occupational centers located in California where you can obtain training. There are also adult education
centers that offer training classes. Most of these classes are not expensive, and some are even free to
individuals who do not have the money to pay for them.
Certification Renewal
CNA training CA certification needs to be renewed every two years. When it comes time to renewing your
certification, you need to go through 48 hours of class where at least 12 of those hours need to be completed
every year and another 24 can be taken online. You are also going to need to renew your background check, and
the state will send you a notification warning you of this approximately 90 days before it’s due. If you fail
to renew your certification by the deadline, you will have two years to renew it by taking a certain amount
educational hours. However, if you fail to renew it in that two-year time frame, you are going to have to
complete a 75-hour refresher course.
Other Requirements
Other requirements for CNA Training CA residents include that you
must be at least 16 years of age, be able to pass a criminal background check that is free of felonies and you
need to be a resident of California.
