CNA Training Courses
Depending on what state you live in, CNA training courses can be a
positive step for anyone wanting to work in the health care industry. CNAs, or Certified Nursing Assistants,
carry out a vital role in the life of a patient who requires care. Studying online or in the classroom is
offered to anyone who wants to complete the course and within four or five weeks of completion can expect to
have work available to them.
There are many study options from different bodies that offer CNA training
courses. Make sure that you check out what the applicable laws are to you in the state in which you
live prior to signing up with any of them. Think about how you learn best; is it possible that you can learn
online and have the motivation to complete your studies within a certain time frame? Perhaps you learn better
in a classroom environment and would benefit greatly from the materials and resources that are made available
to you there.
Hospitals and private homes can offer training, and it is advised that you have a general idea
of the age group of patient that you wish to work with. If you are interested in providing care to elderly
patients, then checking with your local nursing home as to how their CNAs are trained would be of great benefit
as well. Most of the CNA Training courses are age neutral, meaning that
they cover all the age groups that may require assistance. Any good CNA course will train you in pediatrics all the way
through to geriatric care. Some of the procedures you can expect to learn during CNA training courses are:
- Correct sterilization of glass baby bottles
- Newborn baby bathing
- Urine collection from an infant
- Putting a diaper on a child
- Measuring the weight and height of an individual
- Emptying a urinary bag
- Testing for acetone and ketones in urine
- Administering a tap-water enema
- Assistance with walking
- Assistance with eating
- Assistance in bathroom activities
- Providing care post mortem
As you can see from the list above, there are a wide range of activities that you must be able to
competently carry out. While some may seem rather basic tasks, the difference between say, changing a diaper on
a patient and changing a family member’s diaper can be quite different. Often there is a certain procedure that
is carried out to reduce chances of infection or contamination. These sorts of tasks can provide great
understanding for future procedures.
If you are interested in working with people and have a passion for care and improving the health of
individuals, this is certainly a wonderful career for you. Certified Nursing
Assistants can enjoy a good income once they are qualified. Many enjoy a yearly wage of between $30,000 and
$50,000, which is dependent on the institution they are working in. Some can find better income and conditions
working in private homes as opposed to public care hospitals. A CNA training course can cost up to $3,000, but
there are some avenues where you may receive a grant to complete this training or you may be eligible to
undertake the course for free.
