A CNA career can be a great option for those who have a desire to work with people and
have a great deal of compassion towards people. Working as a certified nursing assistant requires a great
amount of patience as well as the work load can be very stressful and draining. A CNA can be known as other
things such as a Nurses Aid, Personal Care Assistant, Patient Care Technician and more. There are many
certified nursing assistant schools that will give the proper training to you.
A CNA will work under the supervision of either a RN or a LPN. You will be giving care to both old and young
people alike and wherever there is care needed. You can work in a hospital, nursing home or other medical
facility. You can even lad a private duty position which consists of you going to the patients home to give
care to them.
Certified nursing assistant schools are going to train you in a variety of areas. You will
learn how to deal with people and how to react to certain things that are said and certain situations. Classes
can range from just a few weeks to several months. You will have classroom time and then hands on clinical
time. This is where you are going to either practice on a dummy, a real patient or another classmate. You will
be taught things such as proper hand washing, dressing, how to make a bed both with a patient in it and without
a patient in it, how to lift and transfer a patient and much more.
When you have completed your training, you will then take the state exam. There are even some certified nursing assistant schools that will help prepare you for the test by giving you some
sample test material to look at. This can give you an idea of what to expect on the real exam.
There are two types of certified nursing assistant schools for you to attend. There are traditional ones
where you are in an actual classroom. These require you to follow a strict schedule and to be in class a
certain time on certain days. The other option is to attend classes online. This can add more convenience as
some people have hectic schedules and can’t always drop everything to attend class.
A few other things that are part of your CNA training include
anatomy, medical terminology, stress management, basic nursing techniques and skills, infection control and
other things. In some cases, instead of going to a school, there are places such as nursing homes and other
retirement or medical facilities that will offer you training as long as you work for them for a certain amount
of time. The normal amount of time is about a year however there are some companies that will take less
time.
When you are looking into certified nursing assistant schools, make sure that your credits can be
transferred in the case you wish to transfer schools. Also, make sure the school is legit. There are many scams
out there and the last thing you want is to lose your money on the path of becoming a CNA to a place you thought was a real school.
